Greg Minnick | Flying Dog Garage

Greg has been working on import cars since he was a teenager tinkering with his first car, a 1976 Honda Civic, in his parents' driveway in Manassas, Virginia. Compelled since childhood to take things apart and see how they work, his first automotive service experience was at age 4, when he found a foot pump and attempted to pump up the tires on his parents' Plymouth Fury. After letting most of the air out of the first tire rather than actually pumping it up, he was astute enough even at this tender age to abandon his original plan to take on the other three tires. He has been a car guy since he was a teenager, admiring the Porsche 911, among others, and reading Car and Driver every month.

Greg's professional credentials as a technician include experience and factory training at a Honda dealership in Athens, Georgia, and a highly successful tenure at the leading Mercedes-Benz dealership in Atlanta, one of the largest in the southeastern U.S., where he received extensive training at Mercedes-Benz Education Centers as well as service experience. In Kalamazoo, he spent three years at Foreign Car Services before opening Flying Dog Garage in November 2007. He has worked successfully with a wide array of import cars, and specializes today in Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, and many other makes and models of import cars.

Greg is a Certified Master Technician, designated by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) and the State of Michigan. His certifications include Engine Repair, Automatic Transmissions/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance. He has also continued to apply his philosophy of lifelong learning, pursuing advanced training in Analytical Troubleshooting, Ignition System Testing, Advanced Engine Performance Diagnosis, Automotive Fuel and Emissions Control Systems, Engine Oils and Lubricants, and Advanced Diagnostic Scan Tools.

Knowledgeable and reliable, Greg is well known for his outstanding work ethic, professionalism, technical skill, and the pride he takes in his work. He is committed to helping his clients get the most of their relationships with their cars and to building long-term professional partnerships with clients. He emphasizes continuing education and engagement with the latest diagnostic techniques and technology. Greg is also a sponsoring member of the International Automotive Technicians Network.

An avid mountain biker (and former bike messenger in Washington, D.C.) Greg likes hitting the trails at Fort Custer and Yankee Springs, and enjoys getting to the trails in his e46 BMW 330i (with sport package and 6 speed manual transmission).
